Cookie Policy
What cookies and similar storage technologies this website uses, why, for how long, and how you can control them. Last updated: 1 January 2026.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on your device. They are widely used to make sites work, to remember choices, and to gather information about how pages are used. Similar technologies — including local storage, session storage and pixels — perform comparable functions, and in this policy we refer to all of them as "cookies" for simplicity.
This website is deliberately lightweight. It uses a small number of essential storage items, and optional categories that are only activated if you consent to them through the cookie banner or the preferences panel.
How we ask for your consent
When you first visit, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen offering three options: Accept All, Reject Non-Essential, and Preferences. Your selection is recorded in your browser's local storage so that the banner does not reappear on every page. Choosing Reject Non-Essential means only essential items are used. Choosing Preferences opens a panel where you can enable analytics and functional categories individually.
Cookie categories used on this site
| Category | Purpose | Example | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Core website operation, delivering pages securely and remembering your cookie decision so the banner is not shown repeatedly. | Cookie preference record | Session / persistent |
| Analytics | Usage analysis — understanding which pages are read, how visitors navigate and where content could be improved. | Analytics identifier | Varies |
| Functional | Remembering interface preferences and previous selections so the site behaves consistently for you. | Interface settings | Varies |
Essential storage in more detail
The essential item on this site records your cookie choice and, where applicable, which optional categories you enabled. Without it, the banner would have to be shown on every page load, which would make the site difficult to use. This item is stored on your device only and is not transmitted to us.
Analytics in more detail
If you enable analytics, aggregated information about page visits, referrers and general navigation patterns may be collected. We use this to decide which drainage topics deserve more detail and which pages are hard to find. If you do not enable analytics, no analytics scripts are loaded and no analytics identifiers are set.
Functional cookies in more detail
Functional items remember choices you have made — for example a preferred layout state or a dismissed notice — so you do not have to make the same selection repeatedly. Disabling them does not prevent you from using the site; it simply means some choices are not remembered between visits.
Third-party content
Photographic images on this website are delivered by a third-party placeholder image service. Loading a page therefore causes your browser to request images from that provider, which may involve processing your IP address by that provider under its own terms. We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels or cross-site behavioural advertising on this website.
Changing your choice
You can change your decision at any time by clearing this site's stored data in your browser, after which the banner will appear again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies directly through your browser settings.
How to disable cookies in common browsers
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies, and Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data to remove existing cookies and site data.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data, where you can block cookies, clear data, or manage exceptions per site.
- Apple Safari (macOS): Safari → Settings → Privacy, then use "Block all cookies" or "Manage Website Data" to remove stored items.
- Safari (iOS/iPadOS): Settings app → Safari → Block All Cookies, or Clear History and Website Data.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
- Android Chrome: Chrome menu → Settings → Site settings → Cookies, then choose your preferred level of blocking.
Blocking all cookies and site storage may affect how this and other websites behave. On this site, the most noticeable effect is that your cookie choice cannot be remembered, so the banner will appear again on each visit.
Do Not Track and global privacy signals
Browser "Do Not Track" settings are not implemented consistently across the web. Because this site does not load optional analytics unless you actively consent, the practical outcome for a user who has not given consent is the same: no optional tracking takes place.
Updates to this policy
If we add, remove or change the categories of cookies used, we will update this page and, where appropriate, ask for your consent again. The date at the top indicates the current version.
